Road Tested: 2019 Lincoln Nautilus

Once upon a time, Lincoln had a best-selling luxury crossover called the MKX and everybody loved the car. Now back to top itself again, Lincoln has rechristened its MKX as the brand-new Lincoln Nautilus.

What’s New Under the Hood

The 2019 Nautilus has a whole new powertrain compared to the 2018 MKX. It’s now running a whisper-quiet turbocharged 2.0-liter inline 4. This might seem like a downgrade compared to the old 3.7-liter V6 on paper, especially since the new engine only puts out 250 hp instead of the older one’s 303. Even better, this supercharged little engine block spits out 280 lb-ft of torque — two more than the much larger V6. Plus, you get that torque at 3000 rpm instead of 4000.

That’s not the only difference, though. the clincher is a new eight-speed automatic transmission with a wide ratio spread that drives zero-to-60 performance of 6.8 seconds and a 15.3-second standing quarter mile at 92 mph. Plus you get some pretty attractive fuel economy as well, with the gas-sipping 2.0 Turbo provides a combined 20 mpg city/25mpg highway, and that’s in all-wheel-drive mode no less. Not too shabby for a luxury hybrid.

Luxury and Convenience

Things have changed inside the cabin of the 2019 Nautilus as well, and the Nautilus puts the luxury into luxury crossover like never before. Design features like wireless device charging and heated and ventilated leather-trimmed front seats with available Ultra Comfort technology keep you comfortable and relaxed on even the longest rides. Entertainment options like SiriusXM satellite radio and an accompanying 10-speaker stereo system mean you’ll listen to your tunes in style, and the available panoramic roof with sunshade will keep things fresh and cool no matter the time of year.

No matter how long you’re behind the wheel of the new 2019 Nautilus, though, Lincoln has you covered. A brand-new 12.5-inch digital gauge cluster puts all the relevant info you need right on your dash, complementing the 8.0-inch center information screen and new features like lane-centering assist make driving safer and easier than ever before. Even getting into and out of the Nautilus is an opulent experience, thanks to custom ambient lighting inside and out, auto-folding side view mirrors, and a hands-free power liftgate providing you access to all 37 cubic feet of cargo volume.

Altogether this Lincoln will get you to where you’re going in comfort, safety, and style. The MKX may be gone, but the Nautilus is a worthy successor!
