The 2016 Mazda CX9 proves that a redesign is often beneficial for many reasons. On a gorgeous summer’s day in Santa Clara, we had the opportunity to take one out for a spin and, immediately, the CX9’s strong points began to show themselves.
Unlike most crossovers, the CX9 offers plenty of style. Most importantly, it boasts an incredibly comfortable and roomy interior.
There is enough seating for seven passengers. Interestingly enough, all seven passengers can fit in the CX9 without elbowing one another or fighting over legroom. The 2.5L turbo gave this vehicle some get up and go, which of course, anyone can appreciate. When you put your foot on the gas pedal, the vehicle accelerates the way you hope it will, rather than lagging behind because of weight. The six-speed automatic transmission shifted gears smoothly and quietly.
You may not be used to driving a front-wheel-drive vehicle, but you won’t find it a hard transition to make with the CX9. Simply put, this vehicle provides a comfortable and smooth ride that, frankly, is a little unexpected in a vehicle such as this.
The interior of the CX9 was perhaps the most appealing. It offers such high-end luxury that it almost feels as if you’re looking at the inside of a Lexus.
If you’re a fan of that “new car” smell, you’ll be glad to know that the CX9 goes above and beyond all that. The Napa leather has a rich smell and a sleek, modern look that is sure to please any driver. Combine the leather with the look of aluminum and rosewood and you have one incredibly designed interior.
The CX9 rode like a dream. We never noticed bumps in the road, which made us fall in love with this crossover even more. The seats felt amazingly comfortable, as well. They offered plenty of support, which is of top-of-the-list importance to a lot of drivers. Also incredibly pleasing–the intuitive technology incorporated within the CX9. Everything is startlingly easy to access and use.
Overall, we totally enjoyed our test drive. The CX9 offers power, comfort, style, and design all wrapped up into one nice package. Add to that the fact that the CX9 boasts incredible cargo space and you have one unbeatable vehicle on your hands.
