Charlie (played by Terrence J) is living every playboy’s dream. An agent in the entertainment industry, he’s got the clothes, the house, the cars and—of course—the ladies. So many ladies that his family and friends challenge him to slow down and try to commit to one woman for just a month. Aside from the possibility of getting bored—this will, after all, be a “long term” relationship for Charlie—this should be easy, right?
What follows is a hilarious and heart-wrenching story that’s partly about the mysteries and misconceptions of love, about love unrealized, and about how Cupid’s arrow can penetrate even the toughest armor.
A long list of notables make up the cast of The Perfect Match, including Terrence J, Cassie Ventura, Paula Patton, Donald Faison, Lauren London, OITNB’s Dascha Polanco, Robert Riley and Brandy. Hollywood veteran Robin Givens also makes an appearance–and still looks absolutely fabulous, by the way.
Here’s what some of the cast had to say about the movie:
Cassie Ventura: [The movie] put women in an empowered position. Where you normally see a man taking advantage of a woman’s kindness and love and affection … Eva’s character was able to put Charlie in a [vulnerable] position, even though she wasn’t trying to.
Lauren London on her chemistry with Robert Riley: We didn’t know each other at all until we got on set but … when you’re an actor and you’re present in the scene, that comes across.
Robert Riley: When you’re committed to telling a story, then that’s what you come and do. Thankfully, we’re good at what we do.
Paula Patton: I would give anyone the same advice I give to Charlie, which is you have to be willing to be vulnerable to love. Men and women want to be in control and love is the opposite of being in control.
Robert Riley on the advice he gives to Charlie about settling down: I think there’s a certain point in life where you do need to realize what you want. You’re either going to build something by yourself … or you find someone to do it with. Then you can actually move forward with a partner that helps you navigate this minefield that we call life.
Dascha Polanco: The Perfect Match is not about finding the perfect match, it’s about embracing the differences in a relationship at different stages and being able to accept them.
