Money Makeover! Harriet Tubman to Appear on $20 Bill

Harriet Tubman

Girl, get your money! No, literally. After a pretty lengthy public campaign, the U.S. Department of Treasury is set to announce Harriet Tubman will appear on the redesigned $20 bill, making her the first women in history to appear on currency. The fearless abolitionist and mother of the Underground Railroad is rumored to be replacing the nation’s 7th President, Andrew Jackson.

But don’t go trading in your money just yet. The new bill won’t make its debut until 2020 and will roll out during women’s suffrage commemorations. Not sure if someone is trying to rewrite the women’s suffrage movement to include black women, but here’s to being totally okay with the bill debuting during Black History Month or even Juneteenth.

Nevertheless, the move is a bold step, and it’s sure to be met with a ton of controversy.

An official announcement is expected from Secretary Jacob Lew, which will also include updates on the $5 and $10 bills as well.
