Yeah!!!! My first BET Awards coverage with Popwrapped!! Arriving to the carpet, my camera man, Daniel Thompson and I were greeted by the heat that was nothing to play with.
If this was Atlanta, I think it would have been a wrap after 30 minutes. Here is my breakdown of the red carpet giving you the good, indifferent, and ugly.

Now on to the awards itself. Here is my .02
I must give it up to Tracie Ellis Ross & Anthony Anderson. They kept us throughly entertained throughout the 5hr I mean 3.5hr broadcast. The Sam Smith skit was genius. Kendrick Lamar is that dude. So glad he was won as it would have been a fight in the Microsoft Theatre that night. Although we can all agree that Janelle Monae is bae, I was trying to figure out what the dancing was all about. Jidenna was fly I must admit. Will be watching out for him this year… for fashion that is. I still can’t believe The Game will be leaving us for good this year. I’m glad the Akil’s brought “Ding Dong” and “Med School” to close it out. Usually I’m screaming “Breeeezzzzzy” but I felt cheated. Maybe it was the countless cameo’s that did it.. I don’t know.. but let’s keep it to a maximum of two next times so your performance is the highlight. Shout-out to Southpaw… Gotta go and see this. It’s directed by the same guy who did Training Day and the writers from Sons of Anarchy. I’m waiting for MC Lyte to take ALL the announcing jobs.. No really, her voice is everywhere. I’m always wishing for LaLa to slay.. but something about this outfit didn’t quite do it for me this go around. The Weekend & Alicia Keys performance together was pretty good in my opinion. Maybe because I love the song but I thought it worked out well for the both of them. Tori Kelly.. YES!!! Sign that young lady ASAP!!! I’m sure you all noticed Smokey Robinson going IN.. In and out of prayer that is. I was waiting to do a two step but I couldn’t tell if he was finished or not. Puffy’s face said what we hoped no one would do, express the need for Smokey to take his time. He did make valuable points though like only he can in between the shade. He’s earned the right to as the backbone to Motown Records. I gave two snaps and a “yassssssss” to my uncle Anthony Hamilton. I love Empire.. God knows I do, but I would have liked to hear V. Bozman open up the show. The same three step they are doing is a bit much. I swear every time I see Robin Thick I’m rolling in laughter.. Maybe because he was begging last year to Paula and it was an epic fail.. or.. nope.. That’s it. I just need some time to come back to him. Rihanna.. duck tape over Floyd’s mouth.. YES!!! I got your money! Camera’s were on her all night for some reason. The Bad Boy Reunion. This was EVERYTHING. Never has my heart jumped for joy since Beyonce came in person to the BET Awards to turn it out. I don’t a soul was sitting down when the Lil Kim popped out on stage with, “Wanna bumble with the bee huh?!”. I couldn’t believe it. Faith, Puffy, and Kim on the same stage together. It would have been nice to see Total though.. “Can’t You See”, was the jam back in the day. Janet Jackson.. yes, she snatched all edges when she walked on the stage bringing the tribute to a hault. Although Ciara, Jason, and Tinashe danced their hearts out, I was hoping.. wishing….praying that Janet would give me an 8 count to take this over the top. I must be honest though, after Janet, my colleague Tammie Reed and I gave the rest of the show two fingers. However after returning home, the show came on for the west coast and I was really trying to understand why someone didn’t tell Tamar about those lashes. Lord that chile has been in every meme for the past 24hrs. I swear the one with the Seseme street character took me outta here! All Hip Hop has THE BEST meme collection from this awards show I have EVER seen. I promise, you won’t be able to look without tears streaming down your face. Patti is old school bae. Last but not least… “Don’t act like you forgot.”
