Well folks, I’ve reached the day that I’ve been dreading since the beginning of October– the end of my trip through Shondaland. I’ve laughed. I’ve yelled at the TV. I’ve threatened to end my trip through Shondaland early. Nonetheless, I’ve returned to my sofa, with a glass of wine (Olivia Pope-style) and dedicated myself to three full hours of uninterrupted Shonda-ness.
Instead of giving you my super-fantastic play-by-play recap for What Shonda Taught Me, I’m going to celebrate my journey through Shondaland a bit differently. I want to list my favorite moments of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder.
Let’s get into it:
- Cyrus returns to the White House (Scandal)
- Maggie gets laid—by an intern—multiple times (Grey’s Anatomy)
- We learn that Annalise swings both ways (How to Get Away with Murder)
- Meredith fights for equal pay and a raise—and gets it (Grey’s Anatomy)
- Olivia upgraded herself from the chick on the side to the publicly-recognized mistress of the most powerful man in the world (Scandal)
- Liz North gets fired, then re-hired, then fired (Scandal)
- Callie brings her new boo, Penny to Meredith’s house for a dinner party. Penny is the doctor who has Derek’s blood on her hands (almost literally) because she “allowed” Derek to die due to her negligence. (Grey’s Anatomy)
- Olivia makes us fall in love with her version of the “Fitz and Liv” love story and how she wish she hadn’t met Fitz—only to avoid the tainted love that she has for him (Scandal)
- Levi, Rebecca’s brother, is on the hunt for his sister along with Wes AND is on a quest to help Michaela achieve an orgasm—by any means necessary (How to Get Away with Murder)
- Bonnie’s dark past is exposed—which changes her personality from “mousey” to straight up goon (How to Get Away with Murder)
- Meredith tells Penny she’s okay with the opportunity to work with her at Grey Sloan (Grey’s Anatomy)
- Mellie reclaimed her identity and her “balls” then snatched her “big break” to land in the White House, snatched Fitz’s “wig” and snatched Olivia’s “pride” all without putting a wrinkle in her pristine First Lady outfit. (Scandal)
- Papa Pope flies the coop (gets out of jail) (Scandal)
- Fitz proposes and Olivia declines—then somehow they wind up getting married—almost (Scandal)
- Asher become a traitor, then changes his mind—proving his loyalty to Annalise over his father (How to Get Away with Murder)
- Annalise and Nia (Nate’s wife) have a heart-to-heart on Nia’s deathbed. Nia wants Annalise to help her die. Annalise obliges—sort of (How to Get Away with Murder)
- Meredith reads Penny for filth and treats her like she’s incompetent (Grey’s Anatomy)
- Meanwhile, April is power-trippin’ in more ways than one—in her defunct marriage and at work (Grey’s Anatomy)
- Olivia saves the dignity of a princess and discover that the queen had her killed (which ultimately gets her dethroned) (Scandal)
- The Hapstill case is testing Annalise’s patience and skills but she manages to get it overthrown (How to Get Away with Murder).
- Sinclaire, the prosecutor, is relentless about getting Annalise’s head on a platter and puts her through several ringers (How to Get Away with Murder)
- Asher kills Sinclaire after her nonchalant attitude about her place in his father’s suicide (How to Get Away with Murder)
- April proposes (Grey’s Anatomy)
- Wes shoots Annalise (How to Get Away with Murder)
- Fitz and Liv separate (Scandal)
What’s going on next season? Who knows? Will I return in February to watch it? You bet!
