Moxy Times Square Blends Luxe With Fun

Opening Ceremony's pop-up shop at the Moxy Times Square

One of Manhattan’s newest boutique hotels, Moxy Times Square, is located just blocks from Madison Square Garden, Broadway theaters and many of New York City’s top destinations. Featuring 612 Yabu Pushelberg-designed rooms and five dining and nightlife destinations helmed by the TAO Group, The Moxy is simultaneously fun, immersive, high-end and relateable.

From November 16-18, 2017, Bar Moxy — located on the hotel’s second floor — featured a pop-up shop for the brand Opening Ceremony. Opening Ceremony’s Torch Collection featured hoodies, t-shirts, cropped tees, caps and bags, ready to be embroidered on-site. The kickoff event on the 16th also featured music from popular DJ Ty Sunderland.

I had the pleasure of doing some quick Q&A with Michael Fragoso, the Director of Culture for Moxy Hotels. Prior to his work with Moxy, following his studies at the Parsons School Of Design, Fragoso worked with Stoli, Levi’s, Dreamworks, AMEX, Leica, LDV Hospitality, Atlantic Records, and W Hotels.

How would you describe the Opening Ceremony brand to someone who hasn’t yet seen it?

Michael Fragoso: They have the same vibe as us at Moxy Times Square: addicted to fun, and a bit cheeky.

Do you have a favorite of the pop-up shop’s limited-edition offerings?

MF: As a frequent traveler, I’m a big fan of the elastic logo sweats and shirt combo. They’re luxe plane gear.  I chose the lipstick writing embroidery–it reminds me of the messages we leave for guests on the mirrors in our rooms …

Are there plans for other pop-up shops in the hotel?

MF: We can’t reveal too much, but we definitely have some further plans to get personal in the future. We’re open to all sorts of collabs!
