A beautiful country located in the eastern Caribbean Sea, Saint Lucia has a population well under 200,000. Especially known for its tropical climate, there is lots more to St. Lucia than its sun, sand and sea. For starters, there is the SOLEIL, also known as the Saint Lucia Summer Festival. Arguably the biggest summer festival in the Caribbean, SOLEIL consists of the annual St. Lucia Jazz Festival, the Roots & Soul Festival, Saint Lucia Carnival, and the Arts & Heritage Festival.
While staying at the Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort, I had the pleasure of attending 2018’s St. Lucia Jazz Festival. Rather than featuring all of its talent on one massive stage, this year’s event was spread among a variety of venues between May 7th and May 13th. Participating artists included Lalah Hathaway, Avery*Sunshine, R+R=NOW — a star-studded collective which includes Robert Glasper, Taylor McFerrin and Christian Scott — and Jazzmeia Horn. All sorts of jazz were represented between the performances at Sandals Grande St. Lucia, Harbour Club in Rodney Bay, the Pigeon Island National Landmark, and the Royalton Saint Lucia Resort & Spa.
Below are photos from my trip to Saint Lucia — all of which entirely untouched, aside from compressing to reduce the file sizes — where you always seem to have a great view no matter the locale.
