About one hour outside of Columbus, Ohio, the Hocking Hills region is located in Southeastern Ohio. Logan, Rockbridge, Athens and Nelsonville are among the towns considered to be part of Hocking Hills. While much of Hocking Hills is rural — when visiting, do not expect to have cell phone reception everywhere you go, nor to be able to find late-night food — it is full of beauty. Visitors can expect plenty of opportunities to hike and enjoy other outdoor activities.
When visiting Hocking Hills, I had the chance to stay at the eco-friendly Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls. I dined at the Glenlaurel, a Scottish-style inn with five-star dining, while also experiencing the surprisingly-good pies of Pizza Crossing. I visited Brewery 33, which had over a dozen locally-made craft beers. I rode a segway for over an hour while receiving a nature-themed tour, courtesy of Hocking Hills Canopy Tours. I toured the Columbus Washboard Factory and the Hocking Hills Moonshine Distillery, both based in Logan, near this year’s Airstream-centric Urban Air Affair. All sorts of enjoyable activities that I would recommend to anyone considering a visit to a back-to-basics sort of destination.
