Andaz West Hollywood holds the secret to the most affordable penthouse suite in LA: a totally private balcony with unbelievably romantic and sublime skyline views.
This serene penthouse with three separate yet brilliantly adjoining spaces sits 14 stories up on an already famously scenic slice of Sunset Boulevard, shared with celeb magnet and art deco masterpiece Sunset Tower Hotel (just across the street) along with The Standard, Mondrian LA and The Grafton nearer the still-under-construction hilly T-intersection of La Cienaga and Sunset Boulevard.
Here’s my first snap from my private balcony at Andaz West Hollywood’s sky- high Presidential Suite.
Andaz WeHo claims this rooftop paradise can be rented for minimum $1,200 a night, so says a hotel rep. And while that may sound outrageous, twelve hundred bucks is actually quite reasonable for such an impressive prize on one of the world’s most famous boulevards with memories to last a lifetime.
I should know. My family was lucky enough to stay for one night in this posh palace to all things Sunset Strip, rock glam and luxurious comfort.
As a travel editor, I am privileged to visit spectacular places and the penthouse at Andaz West Hollywood was one of those never-forget experiences.

Why? Two things: The absolutely incredible LA views from morning to afternoon to twilight to late night. And the same said view from your private wooden planked balcony that’s also attached to your master bathroom and the living/dining room (only if you so desire) is what makes Andaz WeHo’s penthouse so magically desireable.
The dining and living room of Andaz WeHo’s one-of-a-kind Presidential Suite is modern, posh and comfortable. My daughter spent the night on this cozy oversized sofa and we ate breakfast and late night snacks at the adjoning marble-meets-metal table. The sliding glass door leads to your very own organically decorated luxe terrasse as well as the master bedroom and bath.
Step inside the foyer and the modern fun of this suite’s décor delights. There’s a cozy mid-century, modernish dining space with kitchenette to the right, which opens up to a huge living room space with wrap-around picture windows of the entire LA basin, and a fawn-colored oversized square sofa replete with soft pillows and even more soft throw blankets.
A mysterious sliding glass door leads to the suite’s utterly private balcony (no other room in the hotel has one). This long terrasse is the stuff of travel legends as it is lined with weathered wooden planks, perky plants, a huge round day bed that sits in a can’t-be-seen alcove.

Walk down the wooden terrasse and you can see right into the master bathroom’s sumptuous bath (you can close the curtains for privacy too). At the end, there’s a posh four-top dining table for relaxing with Hollywood Hills home views.
My Mother and then pre-teen daughter pose on the outdoor veranda’s peaceful dining area, which seems to sit in the clouds and is surrounded on the north side by Hollywood Hills mansions. Just below is also the excitement and traffic of Sunset Boulevard.
Another sliding glass door here leads into the master bedroom where you will find a tech-laden hideaway with a wonderfully comfortable king bed, iPhone chargers, wireless internet, HD radio, satellite TV and a walk-in closet.
And then there’s the toilet. Yes, we are going to talk toilets. The master bathroom has its own throne room where there’s a super fancy Japanese-like toilet. Not only does the room (or is it the toilet?) play you music, but you can use an LED-lit remote to choose from options such as spray temperature, pressure and positioning. What could be more cool than a melodic butt-washing toilet in your penthouse suite?
The Presidential Suite at Andaz West Hollywood is equipped with a technologically superior toilet “room.” Sit inside and you can control the music, lights and things like water temperature, pressure and positioning with your wall-mounted LED-lit remote.
In addition to all this serenity, nothing could be more relaxing any time than Andaz WeHo’s rooftop pool, which sits just one floor above your penthouse suite.
You can also save money by not driving a car on your trip to the Sunset Strip. As a Lyft driver, I have questioned many Andaz WeHo guests. They all say the hotel’s parking fee is high, so they use Uber or Lyft instead.
Plus, this slice of the Sunset Strip is within walking distance of some of LA’s, Hollywood’s and West Hollywood’s eating, drinking, shopping, bars, dancing, comedy clubs and recreation. In fact, the historic Comedy Club sits literally next door to Andaz Weho (ask the concierge for tickets and show times) while the Laugh Factory is but a five-minute walk away.
