Fox’s devilishly funny Lucifer “police” show ended its first season tonight after nine distinctively oh-so-LA glam episodes. Breakout Brit Tom Ellis’ brilliant portrayal of Lucifer Morningstar drives this one-hour dramedy along with the Lucifer writers, who have added quite the modern twist along with sometimes deeply philosophical, highly humorous and mostly memorable characters.
Here’s what’s up with Fox’s devil: A 30-something, terribly handsome Brit lands in LA to open LUX nightclub and live the good life. In actuality, he’s unapologetically THE Devil with the name Lucifer Morningstar. He refers to God as Dad a lot and claims his father sent him reluctantly to hell to punish evil. “I’m not evil. I punish evil. There’s a difference,” says Ellis’ smoldering Lucifer with a hint of both indignation and fascination at all things human.
Truly, the difference in Lucifer is in the writing, the cinematography and the acting.

The perfectly cast of eclectic characters – including angelic bad ass police detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German), terribly sexy demon Mazikeen (Lesley Ann Brandt) and a hot-as-hell angel brother Amenadiel (DB Woodside) – are all uber focused on their characters’ singular motives.
DB Woodside plays Lucifer’s sexy and conflicted angelic brother.
The plot line is neither too complicated nor too simplistic, which is certainly why this network show attracts those who usually prefer shows from HBO, Showtime or Starz. And the cinematography (by Ryan McMaster and Glen Keenan) of a lit up LA at night is at times breathtaking.
Plus, Lucifer just keeps getting better and better. Rather than sitting on their laurels, the writers found fresh ways to introduce new characters, find the show’s true bad guys and – all along the way – search for the meaning of life with devil-may-care Lucifer and his darling new partner-in-police-crime by his side.

The season finale reveals a vulnerable, angry and forever mysterious Lucifer who is, as always, conflicted about why his father sent him to hell. Detective Chloe Decker figures out each crime by hour’s end usually with a decent plot twist. Season 1’s cliffhanger has demons, angels, devils and humans all working together to expose and punish dirty cops. What could be a better job for Satan? And WHO is going to play Lucifer’s Mama in Season 2?
In the end, Lucifer is rather racy in a really good way. Everything about Lucifer has seemingly come together magically to create one incredibly sexy, funny and intriguing TV show. We can’t wait for the devil and all of his many minions to return in Lucifer Season 2 (which is already in production!).
